Professor Marilyn Amey - Educational Administration

Marilyn Amey is a Professor and Chair of the Department of
who teaches courses in the Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education programs. Her primary research area is leadership, and the postsecondary governance, administration, organizational change and faculty issues that fall within that larger rubric. She has particular interest in community colleges and the cultivation of new postsecondary leaders. Her current research involves serving as principle investigator of a project looking at K-14 partnerships. She teaches courses on administration and governance, leadership, community colleges and faculty, as well as an on-line course on case studies in educational leadership.
In addition to the on-going study of K-14 partnerships, Dr. Amey continues work on a national study of the profiles and career issues of instructors in student affairs/higher education graduate preparation program faculty, and is examining the emerging structures of academic departments as a result of changing faculty work in the new economy.
She is co-editor of the 2009 3rd edition of
Beginning Your Journey: A Guide for New Professionals in Student Affairs
with Lori Reesor, editor of
Collaborations Across Educational Borders
(2007), co-author of
Breaking Out of the Box: Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Faculty Work
(2006), with Dennis Brown, and guest editor of the 2005 issue of the
Community College Journal of Research and Practice
, entitled: Leadership as Learning: Rethinking Community College Leadership.
Dr. Amey received the MSU College of Education Teaching Excellence Award as well as its Crystal Apple Award for Excellence in Education, has been a NASPA Faculty Fellow and past chair of the NASPA Dissertation of the Year Committee, the 2005 Senior Scholar recipient of the Council for the Study of Community Colleges and its past President, and the chair of the Publications Committee of the Association for the Study of Higher Education.
